cyndia sieden
Festival Artist / Soprano
Coloratura soprano Cyndia Sieden has made regular appearances at the world’s great opera houses and concert stages, moving from roles by 18th-century composers to the complexities of 20th and 21st-century repertoire. She created the roles of Ariel in Thomas Adès’ The Tempest (Covent Garden and Santa Fe), Helena in Aribert Reimann Troades (Munich), Ariadne in Wolfgang Rhym’s Dionysos (Salzburg and Holland Festival), and Cheshire Cat in Unsuk Chin’s Alice in Wonderland (second production), Geneva. She has garnered acclaim as Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and Blondchen in Die Entführung aus dem Serail (both recorded with John Eliot Gardiner and the English Baroque Soloists, Deutsche Gramophone) which she has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Opera Bastille and many opera houses all over the world. A long collaboration with Frans Brüggen and the Orchestra of the 18th Century resulted in a recording of Mozart Concert Arias (Glossa). A Strauss specialist, Ms. Sieden has performed Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos (Munich, Japan, Vienna, Bonn, Seattle, Chautauqua, English National Opera), Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier (Paris’s Châtelet) and Aminta in Die Schweigsame Frau (Palermo, Sicily as well as in a recording with Kurt Moll for Bavarian Radio Orchestra). Ms. Sieden is managed by Schwalbe and Partners
